Camarillo is named for Adolfo and Rosa Camarillo, Californio (Spanish-speaking Californian) rancheros. The Adolfo Camarillo Rancho was a large Mexican land grant given in 1837 by Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado to Antonio Maria Lugo, aBasque rancher from Santa Barbara. Rosa was the daughter of Manuel Cota, who received the Rancho Conejo land grant in 1845.
